Every single monster is a different summon that has a different ability, and while all of these have battlefield utility, many of them are also required for solving puzzles, too. World of Demons is all of the above, and it’s all that good, but it’s also so much more, because you get to collect these monsters as you fight them, too. Hell, this is a game where you’ll get to fight an otter that is a master of the drunken fist combat style, and that combination is just delightful on every level.

This is a game where you get to make full use of PlatinumGames’ trademark mastery over fast action and twitch responses to weave, duck, dive and counter your way through hours of adventuring, where you’ll find new enemies and fighting styles to deal with at an extended drip-feed rate (the benefit of having over 100 monsters to encounter along the way). It’s not even that the game has a wickedly sharp sense of humour, as fits with the vaguely sinister playfulness of yokai of traditional storytelling. It’s not just awesome that you get to fight a huge range of monsters in World of Demons (over 100, each with their own unique designs, attack patterns, weaknesses and quirks).

Today we have PlatinumGames, basketball and rhythm game action to talk about. Either way, I wanted to get down something on some of these titles as a statement of record, as I do think that this most recent drop has turned the Apple TV, when paired up with a Dualshock 4 controller (or whatever your preference is) into one heck of secondary console.Įach day I’ll review three titles from the most recent collection of releases.

I’m not going to do full reviews, as they’re effectively free-to-play, but I might write separate pieces on those few really elite games I mention above if time allows. (1) Apple Arcade is free to try for 1 month and 4.99 per month after that.

This week you can look forward to a series of daily mini-reviews that will cover off a fair chunk of these Apple Arcade titles. So I’ll be hanging on to that subscription for some time to come. World of Demons has launched on the Apple Arcade subscription service, developer PlatinumGames has announced via the company’s Twitter account. However, this drop includes three games that are absolutely brilliant, two of which are genuine game of the year contenders, and one of those two is very genuinely one of my favourite games of all time (potentially). I had been planning on ending the subscription, as I hadn’t really found a reason to play anything from the service for some months now. Almost enough to count it as a “re-launch,” at it came at just the right time.

Check that out in the video below (it's gorgeous!).Just before Easter, Apple dropped a big pile of new games on the Apple Arcade. Others include NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition, Simon's Cat: Story Time, Star Trek: Legends, The Oregon Trail, Cut the Rope Remastered, SongPop Party, and Fantasian, a diorama adventure RPG from Mistwalker (the story is by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the music is by Nobuo Uematsu). World of Demons is one of the 11 Arcade Originals. The announcement of World of Demons is part of a renewed push for Apple Arcade, which just got 32 new games, including 11 new "Arcade Originals". Of note: World of Demons requires iOS 13.0 or later, and weighs in at 2.8GB. "Sharpen your steel as this samurai tale is about to begin." Players will expand their arsenal of abilities to conquer all foes that stand before them, ultimately facing the fearsome Shuten Doji, lord of all oni. Along the way, they'll meet samurai allies and a menagerie of yokai, each with their own techniques and combo possibilities. The game is set in a beautiful environment inspired by traditional Japanese artwork with gorgeous stages pulled from ukiyo-e woodblock prints. "Players will assume the role of a samurai leading an army of yokai minions as they embark on a mission against evil. Here's the official blurb on World of Demons: (Ewan Wilson wrote a fascinating article for Eurogamer about the yōkai in From Software's Sekiro, which is well worth a read if you want to know more.) This one's set in a fantastical world full of yokai - a class of supernatural monsters and spirits from Japanese folklore.
